Yes, I was one of those competition kids. Had me a competition sister, and a costume sewin' competition mother as well. I remember a lot about these early times, and what it was like. Even now, sitting here writing about it, looking back over 30 years, these were some great experiences for so many reasons. The training, the competition, the support and respect you learn and develop for your fellow competitors...are all things you can really appreciate, and utilize later in life, and in your professional career.
With Teaching and Judging...my take is; you need to teach and judge from both your head and heart equally. Contributions need to come from constructive and positive positions, based on experience. I feel strongly that we all need to find our own ways of giving back to our industry, and at some point, actively searching to discover these areas where we can best contribute. It's also very important to know your history, and to pass that history and knowledge along to our next generations.
